MISSION / SUMMARY:

Under general guidance of the Quality Control Manager, he/she plans and helps to manages the Quality department operation to achieve operating goals and objectives consistent with Plant and Division objectives (safety, quality, productivity, etc.).  The Quality Supervisor has approx. 30 employees total under his/her direct supervision. This position directly impacts the facility’s ability to meet customer requirements, pass inspections and meet all general food safety requirements. This role manages the full hourly Quality department and covers approx. 500K sq. ft. of production space. They work with approx. 100 formers, 3 presses, 20 blankers, and 5 lid lines.  They understand and align business operations and Plant Quality Control as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Provide leadership to the plant in the preparation and execution of all internal and external Quality Systems audits (including GFSI (IFS PacSecure), HAVI, Starbucks, Chain of Custody (COC) and any other audits mandated by our customers)
  • Plan, develop, and implement systems supporting successful completion of audits and track corrective actions from post-audit reports based on GFSI guidelines.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a Quality Systems audit for the plant based around GFSI standards
  • Work with pest control contractor to continually improve the pest control system
  • Lead document control for the Kenton Plant and post controlled documents to the Plant SharePoint; act as a technical resource for document development
  • Participate in internal audits for the other Foodservice plants as required
  • Ensure compliance of all Quality Systems requirements for the plant
  • Manage external janitorial staff and ensure supplies are available
  • Manage hourly Quality staff as required and order supplies as needed
  • Ensure Plant sanitation schedules are maintained
  • Performance management of all direct reports
  • Must be able to understand a wide variety of processes in the facility without being an expert in each.
  • Stay current on all the customer and audit agencies’ requirements; keep plant informed of changes and ensure compliance; continually improve upon our QA Systems.
  • Assisting with customer complaint investigation and corrective actions
  • Assisting with samples for customers and sales as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-5 years of quality or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience with Food Safety Standards, HACCP and audit processes
  • Supervisor experience preferred
  • Six Sigma experience preferred

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Four-year degree preferred (Technical related field preferred) or;
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with various manufacturing and staff departments at the plant, and with groups outside the plant, (other plants’ personnel, division Quality, vendors)
  • Must be able to utilize time management & multi-tasking skills to keep up with the demands of coordinating all of the Quality Systems and Audit activities.
  • Software Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
